Artist's Statement

I am fascinated by faces. I like to make portraits of thin faces, round faces, faces as smooth as alabaster, and faces cratered like the moon. I like faces that tell every story from a person's life, and those that tell no tales at all. I like portraits of people who are unusual and outside the realm of the 'classically beautiful', as much as those who are so well shaped and formed as to be the very embodiment of what classically beautiful is. I have made portraits of people who knew precisely how much they wanted to give of themselves, and I've worked with people who have had no idea who they were — and came to me to find out.

My studio is in my home. It's where I do all my portrait work from taking the pictures to printing them. It's a comfortable place to be. I like to work at a casual pace, leaving at least a couple of hours to get the right photographs. And I work with digital cameras, so we'll pause now and again to check the images — and you'll tell me how we are doing.
